THE HEILTSUK NATION IS SUING THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FOR AN OIL SPILL ON THEIR TERRITORIES

dragons-and-gays:

Two years ago as of October 13, the Nathan E. Steward sank outside of my hometown and 110 000 liters of diesel fuel was dumped into the ocean, destroying millions of dollars worth of local clam beds and severely impacting the local environment and economy in long-lasting and traumatic ways. I attended a conference talking about the court case that the sovereign Heiltsuk Nation is taking up against the corporation that owned the tanker (Kirby), the province of British Columbia, and the federal government of Canada. Indigenous peoples in Canada have won 90% of the court cases that they’ve taken to the federal level in the past couple decades, and this is far from the first time that my hometown has gone to bat with the Canadian government. The legal fees will be extravagant. Please watch the video if you have four minutes.

If you care about indigenous issues, please share this. I’ve personally participated in the protests surrounding Enbridge when I was 14 (six years ago), but the Canadian government is still trying to fuck over First Nations people.

If you have any extra money, please go to https://raventrust.com/heiltsuk/ and donate! Otherwise, please read and share.

I think the reason I enjoy Ghibli so much is it romanticizes the little things. It makes me want to bake, study, clean the house, garden, and more while listening to happy music and occasionally picking wildflowers and lying in the grass. It helps me find joy in day-to-day life and that’s honestly sooo important for my mental health.

Hayao Miyazaki has said on numerous occasions that he wants children to know that even when the world seems harsh and life is hard, it is always still worth living, and there is always something beautiful in it.

That mental health boost is intentional and Miyazaki wants you to believe that you should continue to live, even if just for those little things.

South Carolina Is Lobbying to Allow Discrimination Against Jewish Parents

feelingbluepolitics:

“THE [t]RUMP ADMINISTRATION is considering whether to grant a South Carolina request that would effectively allow faith-based foster care agencies in the state the ability to deny Jewish parents from fostering children in its network. The argument, from the state and from the agency, is that the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act should not force a Protestant group to work with Jewish people if it violates a tenet of their faith.

“That discrimination would apply not just to Jewish parents, but also to parents who are Muslim, Catholic, Unitarian, atheist, agnostic or other some other non-Protestant Christian denomination.”

White people who claim to be “Native pastors/ Medicine men” are trash even if they “work” with a local tribe. That to me is coded as that tribe opened their doors and your white ass is monotizing off the knowledge they shared with you.

I just watched a white guy who “worked” with the Seminole tribe so a “Native American” prayer over a white persons house who was being haunted by a Seminole man on Kindred Spirits. He said he wanted his land back and was hitting, growling, and pinching this white woman.

That’s disgusting but fr tho if you’re gonna get possessed that easily why tf you even working that job smh weak ass white dudes

@forlovefromfear. That’s what I was thinking! You can not “play” a spiritual leader. That entity wanted a specifical prayer and that white man did some move on to the great chief in the sky bullshit. Like ew no.

Hey there US friends! If you’re voting using these machines (Hart eSlate) or similar ones right now or in the near future, make sure that the machine has NOT changed your ballot before casting it, ‘k? It’s apparently an already known problem, and has been for years, but has never been fixed.
