Great post! One more: meat packing and poultry processing is one of the most dangerous and poorly regulated industries in the US and is staffed almost entirely by immigrants and people of color.

Right now, big businesses are trying to get regulations on line speeds removed entirely. The UFCW (union) has a great page about the issue where they explain the maximum line speed is already ridiculously fast, and removing the maximum speed will lead to more workers getting their fingers cut off and more salmonella in your poultry. Please go read it now then add your own public comment against removing line speed regulations.

CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD SPOILERS

JKR really went and wrote a whole ass movie wherein her Jewish witch character, Queenie, decided to sympathize with and join wizard hitler who suggests he can stop the real life Holocaust but also in order to do so, he needs to commit another holocaust and only keep some non-magic users alive as slaves. despite being in love with a “no-maj” and being able to fucking read minds, Queenie thinks following this guy could help her out somehow.

Truly, what the ever loving fuck.

this is genuinely so fucking disgusting and horrifying. let her rest in peace and stop being a racist piece of shit with a CHILD’S REMAINS

Chiming in as a professional osteologist: this is wildly unethical and unfortunately extremely common. Big shock, but most bone hoarders are entirely ignorant of history and/or racist shit heads who powertrip off the opportunity to own somebody else’s remains. Most are unspeakably boring people who feel the need to pretend to be a witch / cultist / scientist / curator so that someone will think they are edgy and cool, and either don’t know/ don’t care that many older medical specimens were obtained before consent and professional codes of ethics were a thing. Inevitably, academic institutions clean up the messes that these idiots leave behind, and this behavior isn’t victim free. There is a huge difference between donated medical specimens, and whatever the fuck this situation is. Nobody ever consented to be shown off like a trophy by some empty-headed scene kid whose grasp of human decency is even shittier than her dye job.

What the ffffuck

Hey guys not to dip in on the discourse here but selling human remains on etsy directly violates etsy’s policies and i’d definitely not snitch if a couple (a lot) of people reported this.

can my followers who have etsy report this please?

Because it can be a bit hard to find out where to report things (it took me 15 mins on searching around because im dumb) I took some screenshots to help people report her.

1.) Report her shop altogether. She’s selling HUMAN REMAINS. Her whole shop needs to be taken down. I already reported her but here you can see the item that should be reported as well as where to report her shop.

2.) When you’re on the page for the item you want to report, scroll all the way down. Then click “Report this item to Etsy’

3.) This is how you fill out the report form. If you want to go into detail about the product, even better! Go for it! I kept it short to show off the reporting box

Just click report this listing and call it a day! I would recommend only reporting once- we don’t want to flood them with reports to the point where they can’t sort through them to properly take down her shop. I hope this helps!

So I recently got surgery two weeks ago and on the day of the surgery, they had me waiting in a cold room in just a gown because they had to do a pregnancy test. I had just gotten off my period literally two days ago and unless I was miraculously the next Virgin Mary, I’m 100% not pregnant. The nurse barely looks up from her charts to acknowledges this before insisting that I had to take another test. If I didn’t take another one, they would immediately cancel my surgery. It was hospital policy.

I’ve had this condition all my life but its gotten completely unbearable the past few years and I’ve been actively going to the doctors the last two years trying different methods to allievate my pain and this surgery was my last chance at any type of pain free life. It took 6 months to schedule and if I had to wait another second, I was going kill somebody. Safe to say I was a little pissed. I sat in that freezing room, irritated with an IV needle sticking in my hand, waiting on the nurse to find records of my pee test that I did less than a two week ago at their request. She couldn’t find the test results. She handed me an empty container with a cheery smile and an obnoxious prep talk that I did not ask for and told me to fill it.

One of the preparatory requirements they gave me was that the night before the surgery I couldn’t consume any foods or liquid (water especially). So I couldn’t pee. I asked for some water and she reluctantly gave me a cup with two sip fulls.

My surgery was scheduled for 9 A.M, they told me to come in at 7:30 A.M. It was already 11:41 A.M. when I had to retake the test and I didn’t go in until almost 1 P.M. The fact that I had to go through that extra hoop and have the threat of my surgery being cancelled hung over me like a noose just because of a pregnancy test is beyond aggravating. People love perpetually valuing the potential of a possible fetus over the lives of already living women. We always seem to come second no matter what.

That’s sounds extremely stressful. I’m sorry you had to go through that on top of everything else. We aren’t effing incubators!

This is so common amongst girls and women dealing with medical care

[Medical/Miscarriage TW] Earlier this year I went to the ER on a Monday night with terrible abdominal pain, cramps, throwing up, the whole shebang. They did an ultrasound but couldn’t see anything so they attributed it to a bad stomach bug, gave me IV fluids & anti-nausea meds, and sent me home Tuesday morning.

They didn’t want to do a CT scan, you see, because ‘We don’t want to irradiate your uterus unnecessarily.’ Here’s the thing. There was NO way I was pregnant AT ALL because I was literally still suffering & passing the remnants of a fucking spontaneous miscarriage. Not only that, I told them: the miscarriage was a surprise and an accident. I do not want children, had not been trying to have a baby, and had not known I was pregnant until it stopped (it was a weird year).

I was severely dehydrated and on morphine but I do remember telling them ‘I don’t care about my uterus, I’m not using it.’ But because of their concern for any future potential other fetuses, they didn’t do a CT scan. And 20 hours later I got to experience the worst pain of my life, my first CT scan, and my first surgery when my appendix stopped just being infected and decided to go ahead and burst.

I don’t usually add my own $0.02 to posts but misogyny in medicine needs to stop.

Yeah, this happened to me, too, about 17 years ago at University of Chicago Hospital after getting hit by a car.

I had to deal with the same shit about 23 years ago, when I was about 18… when my father rushed me to an ER because of terrible abdominal pain. When my dad walked out of the room for a bit, a nurse asked if I was pregnant. I said no, I’m a virgin. She had waited for my dad to walk away because she figured I’d lie to her if he were there. I’m still like “No, I guarantee I’m not pregnant. I really am a virgin.” They took blood to run tests, and when the results came back, a nurse happily informed me I wasn’t pregnant. By then I was furious, because all they had done was start IV fluids and take blood. I said “I already told you that. Now you are going to charge me for a pregnancy test when I didn’t need one! You had better not!” She said of course there’s a charge for every test done.” I was livid. The other tests were just basic blood panels, and the results were nothing interesting.

They gave me morphine, which made me feel horribly sick until I puked. I spent hours in that cold ER room while wearing nothing but a hospital gown, freezing, and it was late at night, so my dad kept falling asleep in his chair against the opposite wall. I thought he was dead. I cried and yelled at him until he woke up. Every damn time he fell asleep again, I thought he was dead. Turns out morphine doesn’t just make me feel nauseous until I puke, it also gives me terrifying paranoid delusions.

The staff rarely came by to check on anything. I finally got to tell a nurse how the morphine affects me… and that I’d puked hours ago, with no emesis tray to catch it, but no one had checked on me. She gave me another dose but followed it with phenergan, the injection of which stings like heck in your blood vessels. Then they sent me home, four hours after I got there, saying it’s probably just gastroenteritis.

Every damn time I go to an ER or some emergency clinic, I’m always asked if I’m pregnant, and they always give me some sideways glance when I say no… as if they expect me to come clean and change my answer. I AM NOT PREGNANT.

I hate hospitals….

Not my normal post, but please spread this around!! I live fairly close to the fires and I know that is bad and how frightened they are! I lost my house in a fire once and the experience was traumatic. So if you, or someone you know lives in the area of the Paradise, or Malibu fires, please do this or share it if you don’t!

No no no no no. Do not leave food and water out for the animals. Definitely bring your animals in because the wild ones will be more frequent in your area but do not leave out food and water for them. They will become dependent on people and if that happens then they cannot survive on their own which harms them more in the long run. The department of wildlife has warned of this as it gets spread through social media every time we are on fire. The animals will be fine. They can find what they need.

Actually, you should probably leave out pans of water, because these animals are fleeing fire and need to cool down and recharge. Food, no; water, yes. They will be able to find food, but leaving some water out for them won’t hurt anything, I don’t think.

@bunjywunjy thoughts?

water is probably fine, I think? but absolutely avoid any contact with wild animals who show up. keep your own animals indoors out of reach, and stay out of their way and let them go about their business. stay safe out there!

OK we do this pretty much every year in CO and this is how it goes:

  • WATER IS FINE, WATER IS GOOD. Animals fleeing the fire are more dehydrated than anything else.  I reccomend filling up a kidde pool with a couple inches from the garden hose, and leave a couple large rocks in to stablize the pool/let things like birds and bees drink from it.  Also include a 2×4 with one end in the pool and the other over the edge to be an escape route for smaller animals.
I also reccomend leaving some plates with a bit of water in them for really small animals like spiders, snakes, toads and other things that would have difficulty getting into the pool.
  • Beyond the necessary stuff to keep your own house safe in the event of fire, SKIP THE YARD WORK- you probably shouldn’t be exterting yourself in the smoke anyway, and fleeing animals will appreciate the additional cover.
  • LET THEM NAP. Most animals that come to your yard will usually keep moving within a day or so and are only there to rest until they’re well out of the smoke.  If you find an animal in your yard that isn’t obviously injured or ill, just give it a wide berth and let it rest.  If it’s in EXACTLY the same place after 48 hours, then you should call animal control.
  • KEEP FOOD, PETS AND CHILDREN INSIDE. Keep your trash in the garage, bring in birdfeeders, and if you let your cats roam… just don’t in general, but right now is a super bad time becuase there’s hungry coyotes about. Stick your head out the back door and give your yard a quick look before letting the dog or children out and supervise them while they’re outside.
  • EXCEPTION TO THE FOOD RULE: GARDENS. When animals learn there’s food in houses or trash cans, that’s not great.  Foraging food off of plants like munching your tomatoes and that zucchini you weren’t going to eat is less of an issue, because it doesn’t really teach them to associate humans and houses with food.  Let them monch your crops.
  • SECURE YOUR HOUSE COMPLETELY- lock doors, block off any pet doors you have, cover your window wells,  and lock all your windows, even the ones on the upper floors.  This will keep both displaced wildlife AND smoke out of your home.  If possible, see if you can seal off your attic.  If not, make sure your attic acess is secured.  Racoons and bears are sneaky.
  • OBEY ANY AND ALL EVACUATION NOTICES, BURSH-CLEARING INSTRUCTIONS AND ANY OTHER INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO YOU BY EMERGENCY SERVICES.  Stay safe kids.
