lmao9:

idk what it is about kids these days that makes them so funny but in any case my friend just told us about how her younger sister babysits for a 7 and 9 yr old and one day they said they wanted to play “bus drivers” and they made wheels and everything but then the game was just being bus drivers at a union meeting discussing their problems

Anyway Announcement: If you own a birb, you can’t light a candle. The candles that are birb safe are very very very rare and it’s better to be safe than sorry because their little lungs can’t handle the particles emitted! So if you have a birb and want to light Shabbat Candles, or a Hanukkiah, may I recommend instead: Electric ones

Do they fulfill the mitzvah under the strictest interpretations? No

Do they work for more progressive Jewish movements and help you to keep your little angels safe? Yes

Don’t shame people for using electric candles for Jewish mitzvot, especially if they have a pet that requires it

This has been a PSA

Hey y’all, I have a cockatiel and a spouse who has kept parrots her entire life. I’ve literally never heard this before. We light candles every night of Chanukah and have for the entire time we’ve had my 8 y/o bird. We’ve never had a vet notice any issue that could possibly be attributed to them.

Now, smoke *is* bad for birds. But if a candle emits enough smoke to bother a bird, something is very wrong with that candle.

The litmus test my spouse has heard from avian vets is: could a kid with asthma be around it? If so, the bird will be fine.

Thanks for updated info
