Psych wards are scary because:

1. You are treated less than human by the staff.
2. You can be kept with someone violent or severely unstable when you are simply there for being depressed- and when you are threatened or attacked by other people, the staff does not notice or care to address it.
3. Adding onto that, someone punches you and the staff doesn’t care, but god forbid you hug another patient without getting a lecture.
4. The staff lies to you, constantly. They will not even try to be compassionate or honest.
5. You are stripped of all humanity and rights inside those walls.
6. You may not be allowed to see your friends, family, or even go outside for weeks at a time.
7. They do not care about your health issues. If you need special treatment due to a disability, they do not care and will not care.
8. They will tell your family things you do not want them to know, even if the thing is not relevant. For instance, the hospital I was at outed me as gay to my father.
9. The staff will say things specifically to scare you and make you feel afraid.
10. They limit everything unnecessarily- even bathroom usage (even if you’re like me and have severe stomach issues)
11. They don’t actually pay attention to you or try to help you. The anorexic patients at the hospital? Regularly didn’t eat. And no one noticed or cared. They don’t care.
12. They will use force against you, even if you are not warranting said force
13. A lot more, but I don’t have all night

Psych wards are NOT scary because:

1. Wahhhh mental patients are evil scary people and that’s full of them so it’s obviously scary they’re all evil homicidal freaks who are gonna kill us all!!!!!!! Just like in the movies !!!!!!
