What i now need us all to remember that Ron either tried or succeeded in sacrificing himself to save Harry no less than four times at the end of PoA

1. The whole encounter with Sirius kicks off by Ron shoving Harry out of the way when the big scary black dog lunged at both of them, rather than getting out of the way himself. That’s how he gets his arm chomped and gets dragged off (so like not only was his leg broken during the whole encounter following, his arm was badly hurt too) (And can I mention how well written that entire sequence was in how its made to seem like the dog was after Harry and just took Ron because Ron interfered, but rereading you can see how Sirius was after Ron (and really Peter) the whole time)

2. When Harry and Hermione come to rescue him he tries to warn them its a trap and urges them to run before Sirius gets them! He was okay with them leaving him to die if it meant they got away!

3. The famous “stands up on a broken leg and tells Sirius if he wants to kill Harry he’ll have to go through them first” 

4. But ALSO flinging himself across the room on a broken leg and physically fighting Sirius when he started choking Harry which obviously hurt him a LOT, afterwards its noted “his already pale face was now tinged with green as he clutched his broken leg”.

(also he insisted on being chained to Peter as one of his guards because he was so deeply disturbed his pet had been the guy who got his best friends parents killed he felt he had to- which is what led to him being badly hurt AGAIN when Peter escaped).

Ron was the real MVP that night and like zero percent of this was in the movie version because the movie people just like… hated him I guess.
