Just a heads up!

Hey tdp fandom! So I know spoopy time officially begins tomorrow (yay!) and y’all are getting ready for inktober and merciless fan content centered around Halloween, but! There’s something important to remember!

Do not draw or write the royal family in the Dragon Prince as dressing up for (or being!) devils/demons!

Here’s why:

The royal family is meant to be (somewhat subtly) Jewish (delicious!!! Finally some good fucking food), and that’s great!

Unfortunately, even though Halloween is a time of fun, there is a lot of antisemitism that’s still very present in the world. One of these common antisemitic ideas?

“Jewish people are the devil incarnate.” – Martin Luther

“The devil [is] the father of the Jews.” – The Gospel of John

“Jews were…  depicted as swarthy and hook-nosed, and presumed to have a tail and horns.” – About the Middle Ages

(This makes any au where the royal family members are elves, who have horns in TDP, iffy at best.

This is still a common antisemitic rumor today.

Yes, people really believe this bullshit. They really, really do. Not to sat that everyone does, but some do. This is why this is very, very important:

Do not have any of the members of The Dragon Prince’s royal family depicted as devils. Ever. It’s playing into antisemitic beliefs even if you don’t mean to.

Anyways, have fun this spooky season and enjoy some good inktober art and fanon content! But remember

Don’t depict Jewish characters as devils. Ever.

Note: If anyone who is Jewish would like to add to this post, feel free! I do not speak for you. I just wanted to cut some possible antisemitic content off before it could become a problem!

I’m Jewish, and have never heard about this.

What is offensive is drawing them as lizard people, or with long crooked noses, and other traits that are typically assigned to Jewish caricatures. I get the good intentions behind this, but as a gentile, and using a bunch of quotes that are literally from centuries ago, to dictate whether or not some characters who might be Jewish coded, to say not to draw them with horns or as devils/demons, is over stepping. This really is something that you should leave to Jewish voices.

The reason why you should avoid drawing characters like Harrow and Ezran, who are visibly black, as devils and demons, is because there is a long history of portraying black people, and some other groups of poc, as monsters. Especially as demons, which are supposed to be “evil incarnate” or w/e in Christianity, and ties into literal white supremacy.

If you want to avoid antisemitic costumes, in general, avoid giving them caricature features, and for the love of g-d, do not portray them as witches or goblins. Green skin is also a no go. Like, even making an OC, painting them green, and giving them a long warty nose is antisemitic. The devil/demon thing can definitely be taken too far, if asides from a tail and horns, you decide to show them as being reptilian, or having an exaggerated nose, or throwing in stuff like blood libel, ritual murder, or anything that is an antisemitic stereotype.

And once Christmas season starts, if you even think that any character might be Jewish, don’t draw them, write them, or even think about them participating in Christmas activities. That is antisemitic.

That’s cute but it’s literally a problem w people depicting Jewish ppl as devils so maybe do some research. Like as someone who has literally been asked “where are your horns.” Yeah just because you haven’t had it happen to you doesn’t mean it isn’t a huge problem.
