what the OP cartoonists are saying is that they’re incapable of drawing black people without turning them into awful racist caricatures. that they can’t depict a black woman athlete without drawing her as a gorilla (Serena does have a muscular physique, she’s a professional athlete, but there’s absolutely no need to draw her like a weightlifter). well sirs and madams, if you can’t draw a caricature of a well known celebrity, then you suck at your job! git gud!!
they’ve received DESERVED backlash over their shit cartoons, so now they’re throwing a temper tantrum and saying that whitewashing Serena is more acceptable than depicting her as a KKK caricature. they know, or at least I HOPE they know, that erasing someone race is incredibly offensive, so they’re playing the hyperbole card and pretending the meeeeaaaaan critics forced their hands into drawing her as white. Disgusting, cowardly and lazy
if this is how they’re going to act, then yeah, white cartoonists should abstain from drawing people of colour until they learn to fucking draw and stop acting like toddlers
