By the way, if you know anything about the history of the Civil War and Reconstruction, and its immediate aftermath, America is absolutely not worthy of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The radical abolitionists who wrote “John Brown’s Body,” and the radical abolitionists who marched and sang the “Battle Hymn” during the Civil War, are honestly disgracing their memory every time we sing it like it is an American Patriotic song. It was an abolitionist song. And we failed the abolitionist cause at the very least in 1877, when the US government basically allowed the KKK to take over the entire south for generations.
Singing the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” is like dreaming of what absolutely should have happened after the Civil War. And singing it now should be a clarion call to tear down every last fucking Confederate monument until they are reduced to rubble.
