I see a lot of posts saying “don’t stay behind — get out now” which kind of misses the point. Most of the people who don’t evacuate do so not because they are thrill-seekers, but simply because they can’t. Old folks with no nearby family, people with health conditions, those who don’t own cars. There are a lot of low income people living on the Carolina coast. If you own a car and you have free seats PLEASE check in with your neighbors and community groups such as churches to see if they need help.

The track of the hurricane is through some of the poorest counties in the state. Duplin,Onslow, Sampson, Johnston, Harnett are all low income with polarized wealth pockets. They have the LITERALLY dirty poor people and the ubber rich people in the same county. For example where I live is considered the ghetto or the barrio. However, Less than 400 yards from my front door is a MASSIVE gated community that has homes with pieces of 500,000- a million or more. The fence is so high you can even see I to see what they live like.
