bride-of-bucky:

The reason you’ll never see a leftist waving a sign of solidarity for European Jews, Eastern European Jews, Iranian Jews, Jews in endangered communities world wide and Jews currently under attack as reprisals for Israel’s actions, is that they never bothered to examine what the hell the “rich Jew” trope means to them and universally. They’re upset because in high school they had to look at some stock photos of starved people and maybe read Anne Frank’s diary. Is that not more than enough? I feel their pain, I truly do. With all the capacity of a nothing and a nobody whose family was gunned down in the Minsk ghetto. My name is borrowed and my history full of gaping holes.

So you see the very same people decry Israel’s considerable acts of violence against ethnic minorities, and in the same breath they’ll want you to be amazed at Iran’s “thriving” Jewish community. Words that they normally love, like “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing,” never make an appearance.

The thing is, as Roya Hakakian pointed out in her article, the left anywhere has no time for Jews. A Jew who cares about Jewish issues is suspect. Your “thing” was years ago, why do you still care? Are you a (*sign of the cross*) Zionist? Being a Jew in leftist circles is an exercise in self-erasure because as far as they’re concerned, you’re the enemy. They read it on infowars.com or something.
