hmmmm theres just something really unsettling about the american right’s attitude toward increasingly depopulated rural states and their disproportionate electoral power like when they say that if we get rid of the electoral college then “only the big cities will elect the president” of course carrying the implication that large urban areas, despite now being home to a majority of americans, are not “The Real America” (ie white christians lololol) like u can really smell the Blut und Boden wafting off of it :~)

by 2040 70% of americans will live in 15 states. almost 50% of the population will live in just 8 states. 70% of the population will be electing only 30 representatives to the upper house of congress. you can guess the demographic profile of the 30% of people electing 70 of our 100 senators. and how increasingly disproportionate the electoral college’s representation will become. the system was designed this way, at first to give slave states an advantage and now giving rural states an overwhelming advantage. its always been rooted in white supremacy but it becomes more and more pronounced as time goes on.
