California also relies on prison labour to fight wildfires. 

which is fucked up but after these prisoners put decades of work into firefighting, when they get out of prison they aren’t even allowed to work as firefighters legally. 

so only when they state completely owns their labor are they allowed to fight fires, so what happens is you’ll get all these highly qualified firefighters coming out of prison who just straight up aren’t allowed to continue on with their work in a legal way.
